Snow and ice turn the falls at Beebe Lake into a winter wonderland. The lake was formed in the late 1830s, when Colonel Jeremiah Beebe hired self-taught engineer Ezra Cornell to build a dam to power his mills. It was deepened toward the end of the nineteenth century when a new dam was constructed, ten feet higher than Ezra’s original.
