Second-semester senior Evan Wade ’08 was killed in a car accident on Saturday, October 25. At about 9 a.m., Wade lost control of his SUV on Mount Pleasant Road in the Town of Ithaca; the vehicle hit a tree and overturned. No one else was involved in the accident, which is under investigation by the Tompkins County Sheriff’s Office.
A twenty-three-year-old native of Williamsburg, Virginia, Wade was expected to graduate in December from the College of Engineering. He is survived by his parents and two younger brothers. According to his Facebook profile, Wade was engaged to be married.
In addition to being a member of Naval ROTC, Wade was a resident adviser for Cornell Summer College, a member of the Just About Music program house, and co-vice president of Cornell’s Church of Latter-Day Saints Student Association. He spent two years doing mission work in Finland between his sophomore and junior years. “He was one of the best people you could meet,” fellow Naval ROTC member Zak Dentes ’09 told the Daily Sun. “He always did his best. He was one of the most agreeable people in our unit and was so easy to get along with.”
