Former Cornell President Jeffrey Lehman ’77 has been named chancellor of China’s first American-style law school. Lehman helped create the School of Transnational Law as a senior fellow at the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars, according to an article by former Daily Sun editor Andy Guess ’05 at www.InsideHigherEd.com.

Affiliated with Peking University, the school will offer courses in English, with cases from American law taught by professors from American law schools. It plans to apply for accreditation from the American Bar Association so graduates can take the New York State bar exam.

“Transnational” was Lehman’s watchword during his two-year tenure at Cornell, and he has been actively engaged in efforts to expand international legal training since a conflict with the Board of Trustees led to his abrupt resignation from the University’s top post in June 2005.
