Ithaca has been named one of the top ten best towns for 2008, according to Outside magazine. Judges ranked Ithaca no. 6, citing the area’s efforts at revitalization and bountiful natural resources for outdoor enthusiasts. The magazine also noted Cornell and Ithaca College, Cayuga Lake, and the community’s commitment to sustainability.

Outside focused on towns that have revived themselves as the basis for the picks. The ones that came in ahead of Ithaca were Washington, D.C.; Chattanooga, Tennessee; Ogden, Utah; Portsmouth, New Hampshire; and Tacoma, Washington.

In 2003, Outside ranked Cornell no. 14 on its list of the 40 best colleges and universities for outdoor enthusiasts.

The article will appear in Outside’s August issue. Until then, read more in the Ithaca Journal.
